Mesa Verde National Park was the first US national park established to protect archeological sites. It was designated in 1906, the same year President Theodore Roosevelt signed The Antiquities Act. People around the world were becoming fascinated by the incredibly rich archeological story visible in the southwestern United States.The cliff dwellings can be entered only on a ticketed tour with a ranger. The 2023 tour season will run from May 14 through October 21. Tour tickets can be purchased only on recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777.
