For 400 RWHP, your best bet is always displacement or forced air. I would start with a 6.0 (LQ4 or LQ9).If you want an improvement, I suggest the 8100 Vortec. If you can find one with the Van/GMT400 3500HD brackets it is actually an easier swap than the LS. It will bolt to your current motor mounts and exhaust manifolds as well as your current belt driven accessories bolt right on.I think transplanting into a regular GMT400 (non-3500HD) you'd have a hard time shoehorning an Allison in there unless you did trans tunnel surgery or had a body lift.
